In Hungary, paper-based utility bills are historically issued with “yellow cheques” attached for cash payment possibility at post offices. Magyar Posta acts as a collector in this value chain since the 1950’s.
Nowadays the Hungarian population pays approximately 300 million utility bills each year both at physical locations and using digital solutions. Magyar Posta had approximately 65% market share on this market in 2019. Using the mobile application “iCsekk” customers can pay their bills in a simple, quick and convenient way using a smartphone, a bank card and the QR code placed on the cheque. This is an important and comfortable step for the customers in the gradual transition towards the full digital solutions (e.g. electronic bill presentment and payment) on the Hungarian market which is with still has a high cash payment ratio.
