After more than 100 years of stamp history in Liechtenstein, Philately Liechtenstein is breaking new ground by combining the classic stamp whose hallmarks are perforation, thin paper and gumming with the digital world.
Blockchain technology from the Principality of Liechtenstein
Liechtensteinische Post’s product innovation is based on the underlying technologies of artificial intelligence (AI), Blockchain, computer vision and modern printing techniques. The combination of all this makes their stamps forgery-proof, interactive and exciting. For the first time worldwide, an SQR* code is integrated on the stamp, which can be scanned with a smartphone (AndroidTM & iOSR). The SQR code leads users to a website where they can learn about the history of the stamp, the associated serial number, the designer of the stamp and many more aspects. A further highlight is the associated Stamp 4.0 app, allows users to verify and check the authenticity of their stamps. Through the authenticity check, the stamps can be evidently assigned to their owners and securely deposited in a personal data room thanks to blockchain technology. Additionally, each and every stamp is digitally numbered. Starting with 1 and ending with 42’000, the total circulation supply for the first official stamp issue. A limited series of 3’200 pieces will be available.
Gamification principles applied to traditional stamp collection
A gamification function included in the app provides an additional engagement factor. This is how we achieve interaction and connection between old and young collectors worldwide. Each stamp contains three basic digital puzzles and four special puzzles that only become visible after scanning through the app. To get to the four special puzzles, a user must first solve three basic ones. The user can complete the puzzle pieces by dragging and dropping them into the app. With our gamification functionality, we enhance classical stamp collection to create a similar experience to playing games. This allows us to motivate and engage users and bring additional excitement to stamp collection.
With Stamp 4.0, Liechtensteinische Post are not only connecting old and young collectors, but also combine analogue and digital, enabling stamp collecting to regain its former status in society thanks to new technologies.
